At Accomplish Speech Pathology, we believe every person deserves a voice. For individuals who experience difficulty with spoken language, Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) provides powerful tools to communicate, connect, and thrive. Whether the challenge is temporary or lifelong, our AAC services empower clients of all ages to express themselves with confidence and clarity.
What is AAC?
AAC stands for Augmentative and Alternative Communication. It includes all forms of communication, other than oral speech, that is used to express thoughts, needs, wants, and ideas. It can support individuals who are non-speaking, minimally verbal, or those whose speech is difficult to understand due to developmental, neurological, or acquired conditions.
AAC is not a “last resort.” It is a proactive, evidence-base method to unlock potential and support meaningful participation in daily life, at home, in school, in the workplace, and within the community.
Who Can Benefit from AAC?
At Accomplish Speech Pathology, we support individuals of all ages who use or may benefit from AAC. AAC can include communication methods such as key word sign, picture-based systems, communication books, or speech-generating devices. AAC can support people who are non-speaking or have limited speech due to a range of developmental or acquired conditions, from early childhood through to later life. Communication through AAC can play a vital role in building language, fostering social connection, and supporting participation at home, in education, work, and the community. We work closely with individuals, families, and support teams to assess, trial, and implement the most appropriate AAC tools to ensure communication remains meaningful, functional, and empowering across all settings.
